The King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan never fails to amaze his fans as his charming personality, skills and hilarious responses keep everyone entertained. For the last few years, his movies are working, but his next movies look promising. On several occasions, the superstar has spoken about her past, seeing poverty and all that. A few years ago, the Zero star in an interview talked about the importance of money and revealed how her parents used to pay her school fees.
Meanwhile, after the 3-year hiatus, SRK is set to make his return to the big screen in YRF’s Pathaan, he will also be seen in Rajkumar Hiranis Dunki, Atlee Kumar’s untitled project and many more.
Coming back to the topic, in 2013, Shah Rukh Khan sat down for an interview with Filmfare where he talked about his life, the importance of money, and how he was once threatened to drop out of school because his parents couldn’t pay his fees. He said: I hate talking about money. I hate it. I’ve built an empire, but I can’t talk about money. My people have told me that the empire would have been 10 times bigger if they had asked for money. But I know, if I had asked, it would have been 10 times smaller.
Shah Rukh Khan added: It may sound arrogant, but kings don’t ask. Even if it’s the media that calls me the king, I believe it and that’s why I don’t ask. Even a poverty-stricken king will never ask. If people ask him for something, he will give his flesh and his blood. I am from a poor family. I have seen the worst. My father was dying and we couldn’t afford the expensive injections. My aunt used to send them from London. But if the course was 20 injections, we managed only eight. So I’ll never know if he died because we didn’t have the money or if he died because he had to.
He further said that his family had money for food as they had spent days eating watery dal, talking about his school, SRK added, they sent me letters from the school threatening to kick me out because I didn’t pay my fees. Mom and Dad collected change under the mattresses and paid for my education. Because I have seen so much poverty, I do not crave money.
In the same interview, he was asked if he has seen so much poverty then he might value money more than anyone else. To this Shah Rukh Khan says: That’s what my wife keeps telling me. But the fact that she didn’t have any money before will ensure that it won’t make any difference if I don’t have any money now. The only fear is that my children will never be homeless. If you have a home and an education, the world is at your feet. If you don’t have a job or money, at least you’ll have a roof to sleep and cry. I have slept on the roads. There have been times when I have been kicked out of my house because we couldn’t pay the rent. I’ve been on the roads twice.
