Indian actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui will be seen in the lead role of the upcoming American independent film ‘Laxman Lopez’.

The film is a Christmas-themed film that will be directed by Mexican Roberto Girault, director of local hits including 2017’s ‘La Leyenda Del Diamante’, 2015’s ‘Los Arboles Mueren de Pie’ and 2009’s ‘El Estudiante’, reports ‘Variety’.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s project is directed by New York-based Imagine Infinite Productions. Filming, which will begin later this year, will take place entirely in the United States.

More casting details will be announced closer to the start of production. The producer is Lalit Bhatnagar, writer and co-producer of the horror project ‘Little Darling’.

Nawazuddin is in Cannes as part of the Indian government delegation to the festival and rights market, where India has been named the first country of honour.

“The narration moved me for multiple reasons. To begin with, the opportunity to work on a Christmas movie is something very different and immediately caught my eye. The director, Roberto Girault, has demonstrated his power and command over the camera, and the way he can reveal new sides to an actor. It’s a welcome challenge that I often look forward to. And most importantly, the name, Laxman López, instantly piqued my curiosity,” said Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

“I am very excited about this collaboration. This script is close to my heart and the transition of the story and the challenges faced by the main character will surely keep everyone intrigued,” said Girault.

“When I first read the script, I began my quest to find the perfect Laxman Lopez and my mind immediately sailed to Nawazuddin. I’ve seen some of his work and I know this role will bring out a lesser known vulnerable side of him. It is a project that is sure to leave people with a smile on their face and a very hungry belly!”
